100. i LOVE macdonald's fries.

99. i didnt know that my voice sounds so childlike until everyone started commenting on it, probably because i've reached the age where i'm not supposed to sound like that anymore.

98. i love reading morbid, complicated stories that involve murder, abuse, war, long and painful court cases and psychological issues (best if the ending is ironic too).

97. i am hopeless with hair styling, the best i can do is tying a ponytail.

i dont like bugis.

but since my first time at around de world cafe, i've always been craving for their prawn pasta with white wine.

so i asked bff out and we had dinner there.

what a disappointment, sigh...

opted for the caesar salad instead of the mushroom soup this time and this is what i got.

?!?!

i can do better, like really.

and then the pasta came, with shriveled, swarmy green chinese vegetables that looked like they came all the way to singapore from mainland china, three months ago.

yikes.

fortunately, the banana bar was still passably satisfying, though still not as good as the first time.

it might be because 1) my expectations were too high, 2) i was too hungry the other time or 3) i just have a bad memory and remember the whole thing wrongly. maybe it's not even this cafe.

ah well.

meeting up with gladys was fun though. wish the rest of the crew didnt have to mug so badly and could come out and play too.

damn you, ntu.

p.s. i just realised that firefox users cannot see the colours of my font. everything appears to be pink here, no?

poor you, i would have you know that i DONT use bimbotic pink for all my text, i actually bother to alternate my colours. hyperlinks will also appear in different colours.

p.s.s. i'm contemplating a move over to tumblr, but that will depend on how much time i can spare on learning about and adapting to a new interface, heh.

i turned 21.

and i invited some of the most special friends from different phases of my life thus far.

i was doing some research for my interview next week when i saw an old email that i sent to kingsley two years ago, containing some photos that we took together at my 21st macdonald birthday party.

(i am intentionally ignoring your question of why i had my 21st birthday party at macdonald.)

wah lao, i didnt know i was already so impossibly nice to him back then lor, inviting him to my party and sending him a very friendly and personal thank-you email (as opposed to a mass sent one) after.

i think i wasted a very cute macdonald invitation card on him too (and i coloured it myself some more).

hahahaha.

come to think of it, we've known each other for like...i dont know, five years? and it never fails to amaze me how we have progressed from being just acquaintances to friends to now, a couple.

i guess this is what you call affinity.

haha.

...is when you no longer spend every other weekend at downtown east and actually enjoy it.

since our cycling trip the other day, daddy had been very intrigued by the idea of camping in the outdoors (while waiting for us, he saw many people doing that at ECP) and tried proposing it to my mom.

no go, much to my relief, ha!

and so he settled for a 2D1N stay at a chalet, thinking that it would be a good middle point between camping and just a bbq.

the thing is, my parents had never been to a chalet in singapore before and always thought it's similar to those in hong kong.

it's not.

and we would have our extended family there in hong kong to share the experience with, which will of course make a lot of difference.

zzz.

i was very reluctant to be part of this whole chalet thing but i finally gave in for i ultimately want to spend more time with my family.

still, it doesnt change my dislike for downtown east.

this coming from a person who used to go there for at least three to four times a year, thanks to class gatherings, birthday parties bla bla bla.

my familiarity of that place was to the point that i could remember where everything was in that self-contained little "resort", from the individual chalet clusters, to the theme parks to even the fast food restaurants and entertainment facilities.

though much upgrading has been done, the bulk of the place remains the same.

and it is as crowded as EVER.

with kids, big families, teenagers, kids, big families and teenagers.

yikes.

for vincent's sake (his first time staying in a chalet), i volunteered to bring him around the place. for my own sake, i thought of starting off the tour with some sweet, soothing ice-cream.

and these eye-catching wordings on the wall in an ice-cream shop beckoned at me, as if answering my silent prayer.

looks promising.

but looks only.

it tasted kannasai.

soft serve, my foot. it's just any ordinary ice-cream and i could have easily spent half the money to get a much better tasting sundae at macdonald.

yikes.

saw popeyes, where i bought my favourite fries and biscuits.

took FOREVER (though they market themselves as FAST food) to get my order, by which time i was already breaking down at the seams from being surrounded by all the screaming children and wannabe teenagers sulking and talking loudly and rudely in big groups in the restaurant.

fortunately, something FINALLY worked out right.

moist, warm and savory, popeyes' biscuits are simply HEAVENLY, i tell you.

when we got back into our room, it was only about three in the afternoon and the novelty was starting to wear off for my parents, such that they no longer exclaimed at everything they saw (i bet i inherited my optimism from them).

so everyone was feeling rather lost, for we didnt really know what we could do for the rest of the day.

what did my friends and i actually manage to spend 3D2N at these chalets in our younger days, i have no idea.

so anyway, i then whipped out my laptop and worked on my law exams preparation while the rest watched some old hong kong movie (but it was stephen chow, so not THAT bad) on tv to while the time away.

pathetic or what?

hahahaha.

after an hour or so, we all decided to go for a swim at the pool, somewhere even i hadnt ventured into.

my father and i just did our usual laps but i could see vincent was getting bored after like two laps, so we started making up games to keep ourselves entertained.

hmm...we managed to waste about another hour plus at the pool before we returned to our room, with a whole stretch of nothingness looming before us again.

hahahaha.

out of desperation, i actually spent the next hour watching local tv - a rerun of some channel 8 drama with fiona xie, jeanette aw and all that, some swimming show or something.

then lawrance arrived with his friends and we could finally start up the fire for our bbq.

at first, the boys marked the bbq pit as their territory while i was assigned sai gang jobs like cutting cucumbers.

it was only when they got bored with the job did vincent and i have a chance to display our talent.

you'll be surprised by how good i am at it lor. i only discovered it myself earlier this year,

haha.

so anyway, we were sitting around torturing our bodies with these cancer-causing (but yummy, thanks to me) trash when we started talking about nemo and how sad he looked when we left the house.

the silly dog isnt silly at all when it comes to food and play.

he knew we were going out to play and sat at the door like a petulant child, refusing to be left alone at home.

he even ran out of the house (which he never did, unless we were gone for a long time and he got too excited seeing us again) and parked himself at the lift.

pooooooor old thing.

so my father, who wasnt at the scene because he was getting the car ready, felt increasingly uneasy about it.

and by the end of the night, we decided to go home to keep nemo company.

WHEEEEEEE.

best news ever because i was starting to be overcome by the siansation of having to sleep on the beds that my brother and his friend very inconsiderately lied on to play their card games after the bbq, without bathing or even washing their feet.

boys. *roll eyes*

so anyway, the plan was that the boys would stay for the night (they are still at the age of actually NOT despising downtown east, i guess) while my parents and i would head home first.

so here comes what is even better than the best news: my dad had quite a few cans of beer and couldnt drive, which means...I GOT TO DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!

bestest best news ever.

i thought i would be banned from his car for ever more (though i DIDNT damage his car at all from the few times i did drive it) but apparently lady luck was on my side so yap, i got to drive home last night.

it was very uneventful when i did get down to sit at the driver's seat (as usual, the hype was more exciting than the actual event of driving) and i was drained by the end.

but everyone was very happy to see nemo, who was even happier to see us.

and so that is my family's first (and hopefully last) time at the chalet.

i know i'm supposed to be studying but to celebrate bff's birthday, i declared saturday a no-work day.

WHEEEEEE!

gave her three birthday packages to choose from and she opted for high tea at room with a view cafe/gallery.

yes that's the name - room with a view cafe/gallery.

so is it a room or a cafe or a gallery, apparently the owner cant quite decide.

hahaha.

i couldnt remember the order of the nouns and so we had a hard time googling it when it was actually just ten steps ahead of us.

the hot chocolate and carrot cake were extremely tasty, but you can give the sandwiches and honey lemon drink a miss.

the place is smaller than what i perceived from moon's photos but it was quite empty when we were there, so there wasnt any noise or people to irritate me.

the service was very friendly and personal too, which made the experience much less disappointing.

went to a hidden corner of chinatown because gladys wanted to check out tracyinny, which turned out to be a erm...disappointment of sort, though i did manage to get a top.

towned next because i wanted to get a new bag and check out xiangjun and belinda's flea stall at *scape.

couldnt find the girls but spent two hours plus at the editor's market at cineleisure.

it's OMG SHOPPING MADNESS, i tell you.

been a long time i shopped for real so you can imagine how the pent up energy in me just EXPLODED.

hahahaha.

if you are not familiar with the editor's market, it's this boutique which works something like those distributors' market in thailand (according to what i heard). basically, the more you buy, the cheaper the items are.

so you grab all the clothes, shoes, bags and accessories you can, combine your loot with your friends or like-minded strangers at the counter to try hit 18 items so as to pay the lowest price possible.

to be honest, even the lowest prices arent that cheap, for merchandise of that quality but i'm extremely gullible to clever psychological pricing strategies so yes i fell for it all.

hahahahaha.

we also had a little exciting episode at the counter when we realised that we only had 17 items instead of 18.

so we started scrambling for whatever we could lay hands on, while our three newly made shopping comrades (whom we combined our bill with) stood wide-eyed at the counter and the cashiers smiled to themselves like this is something they see all the time.

again, we experienced surprisingly good service, with obligating, patient, cute cashiers and salesgirls, a rare commodity in singapore.

it must be our lucky day.

finally, we settled the bill and the whole shopaholic united stood outside the shop to check our loot, tally the bill and bask in the sense of achievement and camaraderie between us.

rushed to vivo for our dinner appointment with the rest of the gang, for we wanted to celebrate qx's birthday too.

at modesto, which boasts of good pasta, old fire oven-baked pizza and good customer service.

like i say, it must be a lucky, lucky day for us, to have received great service through the day.

ha!

attendance might not be the highest but it was better than expected, given the upcoming exams.

was quite satisfied with my aglio olio.

but not as much as gladys with her spaghetti with clams, wine sauce and olive oil.

i think she spent half her time polishing off all the clams lor.

ah...all in all, it was a highly gratifying (and draining) day spent with some of my favourite girlfriends.

now i'm even MORE motivated to work for my papers.

after my family day at the chalet later, that is.

in any case, we've come to the end of it and like keryeong, i'm glad that we took at least ONE class together in university, having gone apart for hmm...seven years?

ah how time flies, gross.

felt unusually ravenous throughout the day today, probably because my energy loss from yesterday's cycling trip had not been replenished yet.

to my delight, may and angel agreed to have dinner with me outside, for i was suddenly craving for...

MY FREE RAMEN!!!

though the branch at jurong point doesnt serve my favourite pork curry ramen, i made do with the spicy cha shu one and more importantly, i was appeased by the surprisingly yummy dishes that i dont usually order, thanks to the girls' recommendations.

so all ended well and i was a happy, happy girl by the time we went home.

it was a spontaneous thing, us going to east coast park to cycle right in the middle of the day.

vincent is having his holiday and my dad is on leave. i jumped onto the bandwagon because i thought cycling would be a lovely change to my daily run.

and so off we went.

nemo came along but he could only wait for us by the beach with daddy because he couldnt run as fast or far as we would go.

the pretty sights were therapeutic.

and a dose of sunshine and flowers can cheer me up anytime.

after two hours of cycling all the way to changi airport and back, my butt hurt like no tomorrow.

today as i sat in the lecture theatre listening to dr d give his annual school report, it suddenly dawned on me that i'm now in my final year.

like really.

in the blinking of an eye, here i am with about half a year to go before i step into that big, big world.

i never thought i would feel sentimental about it but for that moment, i really couldnt help it.

oh well.

i guess i've never quite felt a strong sense of belonging to the university, or even my school. after all, i only had an average of three modules per semester and spent about two days per week in school in my year one.

and then it was six months in taiwan in year two and another six at internship in year three, with only an average of three to four modules in the remaining semesters.

one moment i was a freshman and the very next, without even realising it, i was already a senior.

now, i'm one of those mysterious, elusive final year students who are more like shadows floating around in school.

all in all, i feel like i'm in a state of limbo. i'm just here, bidding my time.

ah...

now now, the end is just beginning.

and for the first time, i'm truly standing at a crossroad with the world before me.

woot.

at the back of my mind, i've always known what i want to do after everything but for once, i'm on my own, with no guarantee if this is the right path, or whether i can even make it.

let's just hope that these last seven years of tertiary education will amount to something after all.

it just occurred to me that i havent been reading for a while, no thanks to my busy schedule and the never ending queue in the library's waiting list for good books.

to my surprise, however, i just received kazuo ishiguro's never let me go though i dont remember reserving it, and i devoured the whole book within one day and a half.

because i couldnt remember anything about the book, i didnt have any expectation when i started reading it, which turned out to be a good thing.

it started off as a normal enough story where the lead character kathy, now an adult in her thirties, recalls growing up in a beautiful, idyllic, nurturing boarding school-like place and going through the usual joys and dilemmas of childhood and adolescence.

it's only after a while did i realise that kathy and her friends are not "normal" people. they are clones bred and raised in a secluded, protected environment so that normal people can harvest their vital organs when their own start breaking down.

the story reminds me of the movie the island, but way more disturbing because its tone is all gentle and bittersweet and calm, like it's not a morbid, twisted narrative but a poetic, tragical love story (though i believe the subplot is).

once i've read between the lines and grasped the real story concept, i could pretty much guess how the rest of the story goes. but still, when i reached the end, my heart ached for the characters and even for the the whole darkly skewed system and society depicted in the story.

i guess i feel like i have grown up with these kids and they are pretty much like you and i and i can identify with the ups and downs in their lives and their love, friendship, innocence, memory and very human fragility.

and above all else, i feel disturbed and erm...to be honest, quite intrigued.

are there moments when you feel so close to your dream that it is no longer a dream but something close and tangible that you can almost touch and feel?!

the feeling hits you when you least expect it and would linger in you for a long, long time, buzzing with electrical excitement, taunting and rejuvenating you at the same time.

you have so much faith in it; you think so much about it that you even dream about it at night.

but it's not the dramatic or cryptic type in which you are always tangled in some action or busy trying to decipher its meaning, only to wake up feeling disturbed, unsatisfied and tired.

it's peaceful, almost mundane but is so vivid and realistic that it's as if you are not dreaming but looking at your future through a window.

it's almost like you've been time travelling in your sleep unknowingly.

and when you wake up, you can still clearly remember every moment of it.

it's almost like deja vu in a warped way, if you know what i mean.

if i were any younger or more naive, i would think that i have an undiscovered, secret talent of being able to look into the future.

but now, i dont really care, i'm just happy that i've experienced it at all.

it's thrilling, gratifying and somehow it gives me a sense of relief too, as it makes me feel much more confident about fulfilling the dream.

and that is the most empowering feeling ever - to know that you can overcome the problems that you foresee ahead, and get to where you want to be.

though it's been raining these few days, saturday turned out to be real fine.

yours truly had my first drive (as weird as i look in the driver's seat).

and i went to west coast park with my bffs and NEMOOOOOOOO.

woot!!!

kelvin made sandwiches, which surprisingly, tasted really good.

gladys brought some really refreshing taiwan longan jelly dessert of which photo i forgot to take, ha!

but oh well, we finished up the whole barrel of it, that was how much we love it.

so what did i contribute, you ask.

i brought entertainment.

though he wasnt always very responsive or interactive.

with toys and treats, however, we managed to coerce nemo into staying still for some photos.

dont you just LOVE his dopey happy bunny smile?!?! hahaha!

we had fun, a relaxing, peaceful kind of outdoor fun.

and we didnt resort to painting our nails.

you see, gladys actually brought nail polish to the picnic because she was worried that we might have nothing to do and would feel very bored soon.

though the picnic was great, highlight of the day was when we decided to drive ALL the way to ang mo kio to collect from a friend a gift kingsley bought me in london.

we got lost twice and i probably broke like n number of traffic rules along the way but hey we completed the whole trip in two hours and most importantly, WE MADE IT HOME ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh and the car is intact.

i just went to her blog last night, something i hadnt done for quite a long time and as usual, it made a very entertaining read.

but to my surprise, i found my eyes welling up after catching up on all the entries that i had missed.

she wrote a lot of thought-provoking posts about gratitude, friendship, love, self and appreciation of the little things in life.

posts that really touched me and made me smile and cry at the same time.

you can say that i'm very biased but m is certainly one of the nicestttttttttttttttttt girls in this whole wide world.

granted, she's not your typical long-hair-rosy-cheeks-sweet-pretty girl that boys usually fall heads over heels for.

but that doesnt mean she's any less attractive.

for one, she is true to herself.

she is talented, witty, understanding and when she dolls up, can be quite a looker too.

she believes in romance, in love, in looking for the one, despite all the obstacles that she faces and all these failed relationships that she witnesses around her.

though she may always jokingly complain about the lovey-dovey couples around her, she is always the first one there should her friends have to overcome the pains of a failed relationship.

including me.

i still remember how she stayed up with me, listened to me cry and made me smile when i was all alone at home that night, as i struggled with a relationship killed by betrayal.

the mental and emotional torture may soon fade away.

but the friendship i've experienced for myself during that period, rendered by m and many others...that, i will never, never forget.

have i told you that my mom is really into haircutting?

that's probably her only hobby other than cooking and sewing.

and the only thing that she pro-actively signed up classes for. (she tried driving very long ago too, but got really angry when the eye-check lady asked her to prescribe glasses.)

yes my mom has always been very sheltered and traditional, a girl brought up to be a wife and mother.

i think her kind is an extremely endangered species in our society today.

and i love her for that.

that's why two days ago when she asked if she could chop my bangs for practice, i agreed without hesitation.

according to the feedback i received, it looks quite cui now. but it's ok i guess, i dont usually care much about my fringe and would only be more than happy to just get it out of my eyes.

and then my "kindness" paid off the very next day.

as usual, i went to starbucks to finish up my freelance assignment (i'm forever rushing deadlines).

with an energy-boosting breakfast set which is usually enough to keep me filled for the whole day.

to my surprise, i completed my task earlier than expected and decided to go home to get some rest before the law lecture in the evening.

so i quickly went to redeem my free tall-size christmas special blend (starbucks gave out coupons a few days ago), thinking that i could bring it home for vincent.

as recommended, i paid $1 to upsize my drink but somehow, they did my order wrongly and tadah!

...i'm reminded of j and a, my first o-level tutees.

i remember being kinda wary when i first made my way to their house, as it was my first time teaching a group, and they are normal academic kids.

pardon my ignorance and prejudice but my previous encounters with normal academic students had scared me.

as time went by, however, i learnt that these girls are awfully nice.

they may not be very academically inclined, but they are very diligent, understanding, easy-going and sensible.

they have dreams and passion and they are good in things i wish i had a chance to develop in - volleyball and dance.

they may do the craziest things in the world but boy are they happy.

they remind me so much of myself and my friends.

we hated and loved easily. we laughed and screamed and farted and cried and ran all over the place like we owned the world.

we were invincible, we could live forever.

a teenage dream.

ahh...those were the days.

the girls are having o-levels now and i can see they are kinda worried and everything but i know they can pull through this.

because i've been there.

but it pretty much sums up my week so far, since my last update.

friday morning.

went all the way to ang mo kio for my first review of the day, and guess what i saw.

no queue at koi.

would have bought one for myself if not for my upset stomach in the morning.

three food reviews in a day and four times to the toilet.

it was definitely not the quality of the dishes that i had eaten at those places.

more like the quantity.

no matter how clean or delicious the food is, anything above what my stomach can take and they go right out of my body.

everytime i hit slightly above my usual quota of food intake, which is probably about a bowl of rice, i will be looking forward to a day of laosai.

how ironic right?

i have like the best assignment in the world (according to you) and i cant eat.

so anyway, my favourite part of the day was meeting up with shirley for one of the reviews.

pizza bigger than both our heads put together, awesome or what?!

another thing that made me :) was my new sunshine yellow tee.

bright colours always make me :).

and then with the bulk of my food article out of the way, i started preparing the next article about coffee.

met up with 亲爱的 on saturday morning to check out one of the cafes i had to feature.

that was probably the highlight of my day.

i spent the rest of the time rushing deadlines, researching for fyp and giving last-minute tuition to my o-level kids.

my family planned to go out together for breakfast and i had been looking forward to it because my parents agreed to let me drive!!!

my dad totally tensed up the moment i sat in his driver's seat and kept wondering aloud how i managed to pass my test.

i could see he was very nervous because he kept looking at where my feet were and his voice got louder and more strained as he tried to explain to me why his handbrake was at the bottom at my feet, like one of the pedals, instead of you know, right next to the gear lever.

aiyah i can one lor, i'm just not familiar with his car.

but of course nobody believes me.

so i was only given ten minutes at the wheel and two rounds in our carpark before i was banished to the backseat with nemo.

super anti-climax can?!?!?!?!

and i even woke up damn early because i was soooo mad excited about it lor.

sigh.

now only nemo felt happy about the new seating arrangement.

so here's what i have been doing in my recess week so far.

tuesday.

i went to my favourite starbucks where i could openly do work like a nerd (that's a book review that i was doing).

using upgraded nerdy tools.

and be surrounded by fellow nerds this time.

it amuses me to see vickensh, the angmo-nised indian learning how to write chinese characters.

i hope it's painful for him.

to be fair, i really have to thank him, as well as kelvin, hubert and the photographer, zhonghao, for specially making the trip to jurong point in the middle of the day to help me with my food review.

especially when we had ice-cream this much to conquer.

meeting up with gladys brightened up my awful start to the week.

and no it was not another movie review. but hey, i insist that buried is QUITE a good movie, as much as gladys hates it, HAHA!

and yes it was fun reminiscing the past, where things were much simpler, like how we had levels, not basements and i could remember exactly which floor i should press for in the lift.

after the mind-boggling but fruitful discussions, my beloved girlfriends and i went for my second food review of the week.

so today, i finally took a break from all the monster-sized food and had my driving test!!!

i tell you, the whole experience was nerve wrecking ttm, not only because of the test itself but because of all the stress accumulated in me over the week, over my reviews, articles, upcoming test in school bla bla bla.

surprisingly though, i was quite calm today, probably because:

1) i had used up all my emotions in the past few days.

2) i was feeling kinda sleepy from the last few fitful nights and

3) some of my lovely friends had sent me very encouraging well-wishes, which really helped.

...i'm reminded of s, a friend i made during one of my internships.

we got to know each other when she roped me into helping her in one of her assignments back then, and to be honest, that was the turning point for me in the company because that was when i got better integrated and actually started remembering names and faces.

but even so, i wouldnt say i knew her very well, and now?

we are at most, only facebook friends, which is quite a pity but is what usually happens in life.

i think s is not much older than me; she certainly doesnt look older than me.

she wouldnt be someone you would immediately notice in a party, but is certainly someone you would enjoy talking to for the rest of the night.

she is quite petite in size but i think she always has great ideas and more importantly, she has a big heart.

she is also a devoted christian and just got married.

i first started noticing her again when she posted her wedding photos on facebook.

of course they were of the usual, traditional rituals and ceremonies, as well as outdoor shoots, but what really stood out to me was how genuinely happy s, her husband and even their friends and family looked in those photos.

and later, i learnt how she put together her wedding and it amazed me how little it cost (in monetary sense at least, because i'm sure it was a hell load of work), all thanks to her friends, family and faith.

so i started looking at her photos and reading her blog once in a while and soon, i got to know more about her.

if there is one word that can best describe her now, it's contented.

she is very contented with her marriage, her friends, her new house and her life in general.

and why not?

she is not working now, instead choosing to pursue what i believe is her passion - theology.

other than that, she is always coming up with very interesting house decoration and cooking ideas or thinking of ways to encourage, motivate and care for her husband.

i know to the well-educated, ambitious career women of the 21st century, this may seem pathetic, a waste of her education and youth and all that.

but no, you look at her and read about her thoughts, her belief and photos of her everyday life, i tell you, you would secretly want this for yourself too.

it's a type of happiness so simple, yet so hard to attain.

here is a woman who really loves her husband and her life, and is living everyday full of gratitude, faith and hope.

how many people can truly do that?

i'm so, so happy for her as her friend.

and at the same time, it fills me with hope that one day, i maybe able to find this kind of peace and contentment in my life too.

so anyway, my bffs and i met up for a short lunch at jurong point today.

which is superrrrrrrr nice of them because:

1) they chose the venue to make it more convenient for me after my tuition in the area,

2) they gave in to my (and zenoi's) request to eat at ajisen and

3) they cheered me up (as usual) though i was practically half dead from my serious sleep deprivation.

anyway, thanks to our 60$ bill, my chorp chorp card has accumulated eight chorps, i am entitled to a free ala-carte or italian soda and drum roll, please...

i'm now two chorps away from a free ramen.

reminds me of my exchange days in taiwan where i collected sticker cards from 7-11 for fun and got so excited when i could exchange all those cute little stickers i collected for free tissue packs and read this: FREE CANNED DOG FOOD!!!

you see, i thought it would be nice if i could get a little something for nemo, since i bought everyone something.

but you know what?!?!?!?! my baggage was way overloaded (as expected) and i had to ship all those stupid canned dog food back.

i think i knew back then (i hope i knew) that it was stupid but i felt it was too much of a waste if i threw everything away right there.

in the end, the shipping didnt take long but i think my parents threw everything away, just in case.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

i dont know what i was thinking.

so anyway, back to ajisen...

i tried their new pork yaki soba, which was basically noodles fried in buckets of oil.

no i insisted that i didnt make the wrong choice.

i was just being adventurous.

even though i couldnt pull my eyes off the soup ramen zenoi was enjoying.

as zenoi and gladys had to come to clementi to take a bus home, we decided to check out the new KOI at clementi central.

i have a feeling that the coming recess week will be more tiring than the past eight weeks in school.

three bylines within seven days, nine if you want to be optimistic.

madness, i know. but i live for such adrenaline.

in preparation for the eight tasting sessions and the several sleepless nights ahead, i've bought a new fancl skincare set and scheduled a run everyday.

oh and i'm going to take awful chicken essence every morning too.

yikes!

but it's unquestionably a healthier alternative to daily injection (yes i mean direct intravenous injection) of caffeine, i guess.

speaking of caffeine, i am now a proud member of STARBUCKS.

to be honest, i'm not interested in its whatever points system (i dont think i quite understand)

but i gave in when the person at starbucks was so friendly and enthusiastic and she remembered me for my almost-daily patronage.

i'm such a sucker, i know.

let's hope that i wont emerge a big fat ugly demon by the end of the whole week.

to end off the semester with a blast, i put on my first ever maxi dress when i went to school on friday.

i can never pull off a maxi dress very well, probably because i'm too skinny and flat and wearing it just makes me look like a bookmark.

but i like this one from bellaz estilo because it is not TOO girly and it doesnt hug my boyish figure that much.

when it comes to fashion, i still have much to learn from moon, however.

after the media law midterm quiz last evening, i went for a celebratory dinner with moon and jinhe.

so anyway, today marks the first day of our recess week, and to give ourselves some good luck (we need loads of it) for our fyp, my girlfriends and i went for our favourite dim sum brunch at cathay.

to be honest, i started to feel rather full after some chee chiong fun and a custard bun, so i didnt enjoy the rest of the dishes as much as the first time we went there.

oops.

fortunately, we had something good to wash everything down.

thanks to my starbucks card.

hahaha, ok not really but i have three drinks on my card now, so another nine more and i would have my free drink.

heh heh.

went for my driving lesson (more circuits, zzz) and to my surprise, nobody was home when i was back.

except for...

who only appeared at my door when i made myself a sandwich.

wth.

that's the end of my story and i shall now go do some real work.

at the risk of jinxing myself, i shall once again, declare that today was a :) :) :) day!

first and foremost, i had the pleasure to have lunch with a mysterious hot babe (hereafter referred to as the MHB).

and like all other mysterious hot babes, she refused to be featured on my blog for fear of attracting even more attention.

oh well, never mind then, since she's not the main point of this entry anyway.

the MHB and i specially met up because we had been craving for the famous korean food at canteen 13.

hmm...or maybe only i had the craving, i dont know. you can never tell what the MHB is craving for because she is mysterious.

so anyway, i reminded myself repeatedly that i would take a photo of the delectable dish before tucking in but surprise surprise, i forgot!

so what i have for you is an empty table (all plates cleared after our meal) and a grumpy face instead.

i think i was too hungry after skipping my breakfast and completing my gruelling driving lesson in the morning. so the moment the MHB and i settled down with our order, i quickly stuffed my face mad with the delicacy before me.

hahahahahaha!

spent the rest of lunch time enjoying a long chat with the MHB - something we hadnt managed to do much since like...donkey years ago.

went our separate ways when it was time for the forensics science lecture.

where i had the company of zenoi.

though not very hot or mysterious (in fact, he is the exact opposite - a little too in-your-face), he does make me look forward to wednesday afternoons.

and then i came home to be greeted by my LOVEEEEEEEEE.

lastly, i played around with my newly layered hair, using optical illusion to see how i would look with short hair.

and so today, during a short break between defamation and copyrights, i observed the people selling charity coupons outside jurong point.

there was this middle-aged man who approached at least 50 people within half an hour, but he couldnt even get ONE of them to buy from him.

i really pity him because he was sweating and he walked funny (probably because he was wearing leather shoes) and he looked so earnest and diligent, refusing to stop even when his colleagues had already gathered for a short water break.

nobody on the street bothered to even look at him, though he was like waving at them, smiling and bowing and everything, looking way too cheerful for someone doing such a thankless job.

i cannot imagine how these people can actually earn a living out of selling charity coupons.

so i told myself that i would buy one from him when i was going home (and if he approached me) but i didnt see him when i passed by...

and so that is the end of my story.

...finally returned the treat that he owed me since four years ago.

and for some reason, whenever he is being extremely generous, meihui will happen to be there. *evil grin*

after much deliberation, we decided to have our dinner at mr curry.

the curry beef udon was passably edible but the fried cheese bacon something or other looked too oily so we left it to our perpetually underweight group leader.

decided to try their dessert as well, since we wanted to top up our bill to 50$ to enjoy some lucky dip which james felt so confident about.

the ice-cream was alright, except for the tapeworm lookalike sesame paste which totally grossed us out, especially after our conversation about all those intestinal worms we saw in some facebook video.

pardon our forced smiles.

you would look like this too, if you hear for yourself all the gross stuff we heard and watched about fake boobs, stomach worms and underpaid jobs.

and here, verdict time - james scratching away (sounds wrong! ha!) to see if he had won himself a free meal.

nope, he only got a 11% discount, which was the lowest level of prize.

but oh well, better than nothing, i guess.

we did spend 50$ there after all.

having enjoyed a free dessert from our greatest leader, we felt obliged to accompany him to the soon-to-be-demolished supreme court for some art gallery open house.

to my surprise, we didnt get lost at all and managed to find the place within ten minutes or so.

secretly felt quite :) to do this, though i was initially reluctant to go home too late (media law test looming next week!).

of course, a shot at the court's majestic entrance is a must.

even when the random man-on-the-street we grabbed to take the photo has the naughtiest kid in the world. *roll eyes*

after all the fuss, we finally made our way to the main door, only to be stopped by two officials because the court was closed like...two hours ago?!?!

this is way overdue but yes we finally had a proper celebration for angel's birthday.

apparently, angel and i are very 相亲相爱; may and jiahui look like project mates being forced to sit together.

as i remembered our meeting time wrongly (as usual), i reached half an hour early and was starving by the time the girls arrived.

quickly munched on some cheesesticks, which turned out to be real yummy, as wrong as they look.

though swensen's serves fairly good food, yes i had to order the wrong thing still.

the smoked salmon and mushroom pasta didnt really satisfy my (rare) cravings for cream pasta.

but oh well, i didnt complain much because we were there for angel's birthday, which means the highlight was...

aha! the girls' (and probably your) childhood favourite.

not mine though, because i didnt get to eat swensen's till i was like in poly, and even then i only had like a sandwich or something.

after filling ourselves to the brim with good food, we set down to work. birthday celebration aside, we still have to deal with fyp.

yes i know, sucks to be us.

anyway, we started our work discussion...

which was a bad idea because we all know how people will naturally get sleepy after eating.

so my mind just went blank and i ended up staring into space with my mouth slightly agape like some idiot, except that i didnt drool, but i could have, if i were stuck in the discussion for longer than what we did, really.

on the other hand, angel distracted herself doing weird things only baby boomers would.

after spending almost four hours at swensen's, we went to school for sexy mark cenite's class.

we were settling down when jiahui cheerfully showed us her new water bottle.

"awwww...that's so cute! i love polka dots," i exclaimed, before whipping out my bottle as well, because seeing her drink water made me feel thirsty.

apparently, angel felt the same way, and when she took out her bottle too, i couldnt help but burst out laughing.

still felt very full from my lunch earlier so i watched the others eat.

wanted to go to the marmalade pantry at ion but they were already closing so we settled for coffee bean.

regret ordering the strawberry cheesecake (though it was delicious) right after my macha milkshake at waraku because i ended up feeling mad gelat.

before we left for home, i requested to take an exclusive shot with limin because we were in similarly happy colours.

hello all.

so this is what my life is mainly about now: fyp, school, fyp, driving, fyp, tuition and...

good food, thank god!!!

phew.

i cant help myself but GUSH about this new cafe that moon brought us to at bugis yesterday.

AROUND DE WORLD: A PASTA AFFAIR.

see, i managed to remember the name ok.

and such a long one somemore, zai or what?!

hahahaha!

ok lah i played cheat abit. i went to google it, having only remembered "around the world" something something and their little airplane around the globe logo.

anyway, it is this cosy little cafe tucked into a whole row of steamboat restaurants and exotic bars.

its interior design doesnt particularly stand out but the mouthwatering, value-for-money dishes and personal service more than make up for it.

the vegetables (or was it tomato?!) cream soup was good enough to whet our appetite for the real star of the evening.

i took up moon's recommendation and opted for erm...oh yes, the white wine prawns pasta (with a choice of penne or spaghetti).

it was so freaking delicious, can?!?!

and the generous number of prawns given (jiamin counted eight in hers!) were so fleshy and succulent.

hunger is written all over my face.

as i'm typing this, i already feel like going back to have another round.

moon and jia hui (new friend, woot!) ordered some chilli (or was it curry?) crab pasta which i believe was just as good because they took forever to finish (must be taking their own sweet time to savour every bite).

desserts (choice of ice-cream or cake) were included in the set meal that we ordered.

we are after all, well-trained from our instep days in taiwan.
